Our tools page explains what tools are needed in order to be a professional groomer.
let us know if you have any questions on tools, we will be happy to assist you.

Where to find dogs?
If you don’t already have a few of your own, you may begin with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. You can also contact your local shelters. Let them know that you are going to school to become a Certified Pet Groomer, and you will groom their pet for free. You can also advertise on Craigslist.org for specific breeds.

How to study?
  • Review the “Pet Hygiene and Deshedding” videos at least three times before beginning.
  • Study all of the printed material.
  • Take pictures of you bathing and brushing a dog. The dog must be a double-coated breed (i.e., German Shepherd, Collie, etc.). We need to see “before and after” pictures. At least two pictures are required.
  • Watch each video at least three times. Try to find that particular breed to work on. Bath, clip, and groom before moving on to the next video. We recommend starting with the Schnauzer or Cairn Terrier first, then move on from there.

When to send pictures and how many?
Take before and after pictures of everything that you do and save them until you are ready to upload them all together. You will be required to have five different sets of photos:
  1. Photo of you bathing and brushing a double-coated breed of dog
  2. Shih Tzu, Maltese, or Yorkie
  3. Cairn Terrier or Schnauzer
  4. Bichon Frisé or Poodle, “Kennel Clip”
  5. Cocker Spaniel or Springer

Again, before and after pictures are required. If you have any questions, please call or email.

When to take the test?
When you have bathed and brushed dogs, and groomed several others, you should be able to take the test.

When will I receive my certificates?
Once we have received your final exam with your before and after pictures, we will review your pictures and grade your exam. You must pass with a score of 70% or higher, and once that is accomplished, we will then mail your certificates. You will receive one for Certified Professional Pet Groomer and one for Pet Hygiene.
